Donald K. Frank of Aquebogue died Nov. 5. He was 91. 

He was born March 30, 1923, in Brooklyn to August and Johanna Frank. Mr. Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He worked for AIL Systems Inc. in Deer Park.

Mr. Frank was a member of Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild in Cutchogue. Family members said he enjoyed painting, baseball and football.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (née Klaar) of Aquebogue; his children, Kennneth of Smithtown and Diane Kreschollek of Arizona; and seven grandchildren.

The family received visitors Nov. 9 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place Nov. 10 at Calverton National Cemetery.

Former Riverhead resident Arthur Robert Thurm died Nov. 6 in Ocala, Fla. He was 61. 

He was born in Riverhead Oct. 11, 1953, and was a retired business owner. Mr. Thurm moved to Florida in 2008, and was a member of The Family Life Assembly of God in Ocala.

Mr. Thurm is survived by his wife of 29 years, Margaret; his stepson, Scott Trehy; two sons, Arthur Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. and Ryan of Riverhead; two daughters, Christina of Dunnellon, Fla. and Heather of Glen Head; a brother, Raymond of Michigan and a sister, Nancy Teodecki of Auburn, N.Y.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Robert Bruce West Funeral Home in Ocala, with a funeral service following at 7 p.m. A service of Christian burial will take place Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Good Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Ocala.

Westhampton Beach dentist Dr. Patrick J. Restivo of Calverton died at Nov. 10 at Westhampton Care Center. He was 78 years old.

Riverhead resident Waclaw Wilczynski, formerly of Hampton Bays, died Nov. 10 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 89. 

He was born April 13, 1925, in Bierwicha Poland to Anna Miezianko and Andrezj Wilczynski. He obtained a bachelor’s degree and was a broker for the Polish State Court.

Family members said he worked at St. Isidore R.C. Church for many years and loved the church.

Predeceased by his wife, Cecylia in 1984, he is survived by his daughters, Jolanta Partyka of Riverhead; Elizabeth Wilczynska of Hampton Bays, and Wieslawa Ploski and Anna Podbielski, both of Toronto, Canada; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will take place Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church, officiated by Father Robert Kuznik. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

Former Jamesport resident Bartley C. Mahan died suddenly on November 13, 2014 at his home in Mattituck. He was 58. 

Mr. Mahan was born in Stamford, Conn. June 11, 1956, to Julia (née Swita) and Charles Mahan. He had lived in Mattituck for the past seven years and had been a transporter at Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Family members said he loved animals and found enjoyment in art and reading and playing his guitar.

Mr. Mahan is survived by his partner, Diane Dibble; four children, Desiree, Charles, Bartley, Jr. and Ryan; and a brother, Rory Mahan.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where the Rev. George Gaffga will conduct services at 7 p.m.

Clayborne Hughes Jr. of Riverhead died Nov. 11 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 76. 

He was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Riverhead to Jake and Alice (Jackson) Hughes. He worked as a truck driver for Schmidt’s Market in Southampton.

His wife, Evelyn, said he loved animals, especially his beloved dog, Milo.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn (née Dean) Hughes of Riverhead, Mr. Hughes is survived by his sons, Tremayne, Craig and Carlton, all of Virginia, and Clayton of Riverhead; his daughters, Vanessa “Gail” Hughes of New Jersey, Tracey Holloway of Virginia and Irene Hicks of Riverhead; his sister, Celestine Brown, of Riverhead; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors Nov. 15 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. Interment will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, at Hughes Family Cemetery in Ballsville, Va.

The Rev. Troy Lee Johnson of Riverhead died Nov. 18 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 52. 

He was born Nov. 5, 1962, in Riverhead to Betty Rollins and Barry Johnson. He served his country in the U.S. Army and traveled throughout Europe. Mr. Johnson moved with his family to Orlando, Fla., in 2002 and worked at Universal Studios  for 12 years.

Mr. Johnson was a member of the House of Praise Christian Revival Center, under the Rev. Pastor Mary A. Cooper.  He was the first ordained deacon and Sunday school superintendent of House of Praise and also served as the head deacon and taught Sunday school to young men. Family members said he was a born-again Christian and loved the Lord.

He married Marysa A. (Cooper) Johnson of Riverhead Jan. 21, 1983, in San Antonio, Texas. Family members said Mr. Johnson was blessed with a large and loving family, helping to raise his four daughters, who they said he loved and was very proud of.  Family members also said he would be greatly missed.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, of Orlando; his four daughters, Karyssa, Alyssa, Malyssa, and Laryssa Johnson, all of Orlando; his brother, Derick Randall, of Riverhead; his sisters, Maryeta Booker of Overlea Md, and Marylin Winter and Maryona Williams, both of Riverhead; and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and his grandparents Cyrus and Dorothy Randall.

Cremation was private and handled by Joseph A. Slinger-Hasgill Funeral Services Inc. in Amityville.

Robert Andrew Boenig

Robert Andrew Boenig of Wading River died Nov. 11. He was 79. 

He was born Dec. 29, 1934, and served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Seton Hall in 1952.

Mr. Boenig was a firefighter with the Wading River Fire Department for 54 years and also served as fire commissioner there.

He owned Wading River Garage and served the community for many years before retiring in 2000 to spend more time with family. Relatives described him as an “amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, neighbor and friend.”

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jeane Morpurgo Boenig; six daughters, Brenda Boenig Taegder of Walden, N.Y., Paula Rammer of Henderson, Nev., Lora Padilla, Barbara Kozlowski and Sheila Domino, all of Shoreham; and Georgia Boenig Stasiukiewicz of Wading River; his siblings, Frank, Marygrace Meier, Judyellen Gallo, Jeanemarie Payne, Annemarian Pepino; 10 grandchildren and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Fred.

The family received visitors Nov. 14 at Wading River Firehouse. A funeral Mass with full fire department honors was held Nov. 15 at St. John the Baptist Church in Wading River.

Lifelong Riverhead resident Helen L. Case died Nov. 24. She was 83. 

She was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Riverhead to Benjamin J. and Lucy (Cackowski) Case and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1949.

Ms. Case worked as a clerk for the Suffolk County Board of Elections in Yaphank. She was a member of the Suffolk County Women’s Bowling Association.

Family members said Ms. Case enjoyed cooking, shopping, traveling and spending time with family.

She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Keller and Pauline Case, both of Riverhead and Dorothy Kappenberg of Westhampton Beach; and her brother, Richard of Wading River.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, Nov. 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, with a funeral service following at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Margaret Namiotka of Jamesport died at her home Nov. 24, 2014. She was 59. 

Known as Peggy Smith, she raced in modified competition at the Riverhead Raceway and was a former Grand Am late model champion at Riverhead and late model Rookie of The Year at the Freeport Stadium Speedway.

The family will receive visitors Sunday-Monday, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.  The family invites her colleagues and fans to gather at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a race reunion. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at Jamesport Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Saladon of Living Water Full Gospel Church will officiate. The funeral procession will form at DeFriest-Grattan at 10 a.m.

Ann Victoria Mulverhill of Riverhead died Nov. 26, 2013, at the Riverhead Care Center. She was 79. 

She was born in Louisville, Ky April 6, 1934 and studied business education at Theodore Arens Trade High School, where she graduated in 1953. As a teen, she performed in skating shows. She moved to New York and lived in Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill and Coney Island until Hurricane Sandy, when she moved to the care center to be closer to family.

Ms. Mulverhill worked as a medical typist and in business offices for Manpower, Cumberland Hospital, St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center, Reynolds Metals Company, International Business Machines, and Long Island College Hospital.

Her daughter, Helen Soltys, said that Ms. Mulverhill, was gifted at macramé and crocheting, and also had a “green thumb.”

In addition to her daughter, Ms. Mulverhill is survived by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter and a nephew.

Ms. Mulverhill’s body was donated to Stony Brook University Medical Center for medical research.

Janet Lee Price Case of Cutchogue died Nov. 26, 2014. She was 84. 

She was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Greenport, to Harold and Vera (née Petty) Price and married Ernest Wickham Case, Oct. 12, 1952, at the home of Doris and Herman Moeller in Hampton Bays.

A lifelong North Fork resident, she was a member of the North Fork United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Ernest W. Case; two daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Distenfeld of Williamson, N.Y. and Carole Weber of Coventry, Conn.; five grandchildren, Kathryn Distenfeld, Michael Distenfeld, Patrick Weber, Christine Weber and Melissa Weber; a niece: Linda Moeller McMillen and other nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son, Alan L. Case in June of 2014 and a sister, Doris Foster in August of 2012.

Services were held Nov. 29 at North Fork United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas MacLeod officiating.

Albin Januick of New Suffolk died Nov. 27, 2014. He was 90. 

Mr. Januick was a retired senior vice-president, comptroller and secretary with Southold Savings Bank.

He was born March 3, 1924, in New Suffolk to Adam and Jessie (née Sledjeski) Januick. From 1944 to 1946, he served honorably with the U.S. Navy.

A graduate of Ryder College, he attended Brown University and Stamford University and received a degree in finance from Brown College.

In the community, Mr. Januick had been president of Southold Rotary Club, a board member of Eastern Long Island Hospital and trustee of Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church

Predeceased by siblings, William Januick and Albina Wowak, he is survived by nieces and nephews, Helen Ruskowski, Stacia Rempe, Wesley Droskoski, Maryann Heilbrunn and Susan Mott and grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Nov. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Raymond Moran of Riverhead died Nov. 26 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Northport. He was 95. 

He was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Brooklyn to Bella (Waldron) and Edward Moran. Mr. Moran served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He achieved the rank of corporal and received the Bronze Star medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Riverhead.

Mr. Moran was a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service office in Brooklyn.

Predeceased by his wife, Margaret (née Qualey) in 1999 and his son Raymond Jr. in 2007, Mr. Moran is survived by his daughter, Linda Singer of Calverton, his sons Robert, of Massachusetts and Richard of Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Former Riverhead resident Dana S. Niewadomski of Alabama died Aug. 19. He was 62. 

Mr. Niewadomski was born July 4, 1952, in Bay Shore to Charles and Virginia (Furlong) Niewadomski. He graduated from Riverhead High School in 1970. He married Margaret Lindsey Jan. 9, 1971, in Riverhead.

While living in Riverhead, Mr. Niewadomski worked for Central Suffolk Hospital (now Peconic Bay Medical Center) as a dietary supervisor. After moving to Alabama, he was the director of campus dining at University of West Alabama. He was a past member of Riverhead Fire Department.

An alumnus of the Culinary Institute of America, family members said Mr. Niewadomski was a wine connoisseur who enjoyed cooking. He also loved traveling and spending time with family.

Predeceased by his parents and brothers, Donald Packham and Charles Niewadomski Jr.; Mr. Niewadomski is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy;” his children, Lindsey Niewadomski (Jason Copenhaver Sr.), Charles J. (Melody) Niewadomski; grandchildren, Jared, Jason Jr., Ryan and Ryleigh Copenhaver; and James and Sabrina Niewadomski; brothers and sister, Joseph (Kerry) Niewadomski of California, John, of Riverhead and Susan, of Kentucky; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tom and Barbara Shalvey of Cutchogue, Sally and Paul Kettrick of South Carolina, and Theo and Derwin Fairres of Alabama; his aunt, Lottie Adams and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation will be private.

Bertha K. Gancarz of Cutchogue died Nov. 23 at her home. She was 85. 

She was born on Sept. 30, 1929, to Alexander and Pauline Matwieczyk and attended Mattituck High School.

On Sept. 4, 1949, she married Paul A. Gancarz at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue.

A lifelong resident of Cutchogue, Bertha was a communicant of Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C Church, sang in the choir and was a member of the Rosary Society.

Bertha had been a farmer, gardener and baker and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Paul A. Gancarz; two daughters Patricia (Robert) VanBourgondien and Debra (Robert) Nowak ; a sister, Helen Misterka of Glastonbury, Conn.; six grandchildren: Brian (Alice) Nowak of Manorville, Kevin Nowak of Medford, Jaclyn VanBourgondien (Andrew) Tralka of Maui, Hawaii, Betsy VanBourgondien of New Market, N.H., Kimberly and Cynthia VanBourgondien of Southold and a great-grandson, Samuel Paul Nowak of Manorville. She was predeceased by her siblings Anthony, in 1948, John, in 2003, Joe in 1988 and Jane, in 2006.

Joseph W. Hackal of Riverhead died Dec. 1 at his home. He was 100. 

He was born March 4, 1914, in Calverton to John and Mary Hackal.

Mr. Hackal worked as a New York State game warden. Family members said he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping and gambling.

Predeceased by his wife, Erna, in 2006 and his daughter Sharon Kooney, Mr. Hackal is survived by his daughter Barbara Kujawski; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Fidel Ortiz Ramon of Flanders died Nov. 23, He was 50.

Mary J. Danowski of Riverhead died Dec. 4 at her home. She was 94.

She was born July 27, 1920, in Jamesport to Mary (Mizieski) and Antone Sobocinski. Family member said she was a homemaker.

Predeceased by her husband Thomas, she is survived by her daughters, Gloria Broderick of Massachusetts and Ruthann of Vermont; her sons Richard, of New York and Thomas, of Texas; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Riverhead resident Karen S. Miller, formerly of Bethpage, died Dec. 7 at Stony Brook University Hospital. She was 64. 

She was born Oct. 24, 1950, in Freeport to Doris (Maclachlan) and Charles Auer Sr. She married Frederick J. Miller, July 4, 1976, in Bethpage.

Ms. Miller worked as a clinical laboratory technician at Pro Health in Bethpage.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick of Riverhead; her daughters, Kerri. L. Schoonmaker of New Jersey and Meaghan Bealey of Riverhead; her sister, Cathy Collins of Centereach her brother Charles Arthur “Buddy” Auer Jr. of North Carolina; her sister, Lori Auer Testa of Bethpage; and four grandchildren.
